Happy December

The Health Care Pathways Conference was great. I came away with some good ideas about how important Advisory Members are, Emily Lebo gave some great advice about writing grants and learned how Worcester Tech has learned to barter rent for teaching for their EMT program. I will be looking forward to the end of the year review.

I have some pictures to add to this blog but the camera is in the lab and I am home :) I will post them soon.

There was also a nice collection of vendors at this conference with some nice goodies.

It was great to see some familiar faces and some new ones as well.

I know it will be busy from now until Dec. vacation so, do not stress, everything will get done :) and I will be posting again after the holidays. Until then, Happy Holidays and don't eat too much!

Requirements for Nurse Aide Testing

Hello all! I know we have all talked about finding a single source for our information about the regulations for a Nurse Aide Program. Well, the nearest I can tell is........ there really isn't one.

That being said, I did however, find some useful information that may help. Mass.Gov website. Look for Health & Human Services. Listed there, is a link to the Requirements for the Nurse Aide Registry. ( or just click on the link to the left of this blog :) )

This Page gives you an outline and the Federal law numbers. These numbers can be located through a search.

Have I confused you? Call me at work or wait until we have another meeting together

Blog Anyone

Has anyone attempted to create a blog to communicate with their students? I have started one for my students and so far it is working ok. They are just beginning to read and comment. Sometimes it is silly things sometimes a great reminder for all of their classmates. I do have to entice them with the prospect that their picture will be there. (Hams!!!) I have also asked them for some topics. Sometimes I just write when their homework is due.

Anyway, it is quite easy to start one. Just go to google, click more, scroll down to blog and follow the directions. I am sure that your students could help.

CPR Instructor' Course

I know that I told you that my partner LaDonna left to teach at the college level in Maryland. Well, she was the one with the CPR Instructor Certification. So, I bit the bullet and got my certification again. I had a great time, met nice people and also made a new professional contact.

I went to EMS Academy in Quincy. The director's name is Lori Joyce. and this is her link. http://www.emsacademy.biz/ They also have sites in Marshfield and in Woburn. It really is one stop shopping. I will be getting my student's cards from there, future updates from AHA. and a resource for instructional material.

You may also want to try out another web site that Lori passed on to us. www.aha.channing-bete.com. for manuals etc.

I will add these addresses to the blog

Delmar Online Companion

I have for a long time, made my own PowerPoint presentations, and labored to find online resources to help the students understand topics. What I should have done is to to the Online companion that accompanies the selected text that I am using and BINGO! There are the presentations, and online resources that I need.

At SSVT, we use Body Structures by Scott for our A&P and we use Nursing Assistant, A Nursing Process Approach by Hegner.

To get to these online companions go to http://www.cengage.com/delmar/ The click onto educators then click onto online companions. You will have to click onto a general topic such as allied health or nursing. Once you locate the book click on to instructors resources or student resources. It is amazing!! You may need a password. e-mail Lisa Arsenault.

Enjoy!

New School Year

Greeting to all of the Health Occupations Instructors

We are beginning a new school year. I hope that this web site will be used to communicate with each other. Please pass this site on to those who I may not have had e-mail for. Look into your files and please send along anything that you think may help others. I know that the blog was started over the summer and basically, no one was "in the mood " for anything associated with SCHOOL :( But now that we are almost back in the swing, I hope for lots of sharing!! :)

Thursday Morning 6/26/08

Today some of us attended 3 very useful programs. The first was about the Human Services Academy at Diman Voc. I have the PowerPoint for it but I haven't figured out how to link it. (but I will :))

The second was about the Paid Feeding Program by Candace Bracken from Greater Lawrence Tech. She made sence of a confusing topic. This also generated lots of discussion as to when the feeding program was taught. I will add some of the links that she provided.

Conference At Assabet

Hello to all.

While at the conference here at Assabet, I was talking to fellow Health Occupations Instructors. Because she was new into the arena of vocational education, she wished that there was a web site that she could go to and get information or ask questions.
Coincidentally , I had just been to a session on how to make your own blog.
Hmmmm.

What I hope to do is, over the summer, put as much information that I can about the CNA guidelines. I would like to invite all of you to add information, and post comments. Maybe this could be a way of communicating with each other collectively and not individually via e-mail. If I have a question, perhaps you do too. Anyway, I hope you will all help with this endeavor.
