DOL update

Hi everyone

I emailed Eileen and she said that DPH has no ruling on the "hoists" so we need to follow the Department of Labor ruling.

Does anyone know what the DPH or Eileen is saying about the new labor law restricting the use of "power driven hoists" by children under the age of 18 years old? I am reprinting an article from MSNBC.com

BISMARCK, N.D. — A change in federal child labor laws that prohibits some teenagers from operating mechanical lifts is causing headaches for some North Dakota nursing homes that use lifts to move patients.
The Department of Labor provision that went into effect this past summer prohibits 16- and 17-year-olds from operating the lifts because of safety concerns.
The change affects more than 205 certified nursing assistants statewide and has meant some nursing homes are having to juggle their schedules. For teen workers it can mean a loss of pay and experience.
At St. Gerard Nursing Home in Hankinson, nearly 15 percent of the CNA staff is under 18.
"It's a good share of the evening shift," Jill Foertsch, the facility's director of nursing, told The Bismarck Tribune.
North Dakota Long Term Care Association Director Shelly Peterson said the regulation was prompted by equipment primarily used in industrial settings, where teens had been killed. She said science and research show that the lifts prevent injuries in health care settings.
Peterson said the Labor Department is re-evaluating the regulation, and officials hope it can be changed quickly to lessen the effects on long-term care facilities.

Letter From DPH

Has anyone received this letter from DPH stating that students must be supervised the performance of ADL's?

Hopefully this will generate some sort of discussion here :)

TO ALL NURSE AIDE TRAINING INSTRUCTORS

It has come to my attention that during clinical rotation, students are being left unsupervised by the instructor. This practice must stop immediately. Students are to be watched by the instructor at all times for all ADL’s.
The complaint unit at the DPH has been called regarding abuse by a nurse aide training student.

Please email me with any questions.

Can Schools Discipline Students for Creating a Mean Facebook Page About a Teacher? Cyberbullying Blog

I was just wondering what your school is doing about bullying and cyberbullying? What is the discipline for those that demonstrate bullying behavior in school?

Did the staff have an in service about the policy and protocol?

Just wondering
